MUKZIN, What’s in Your Gourd?
In the 19th century, as Western medicine and design aesthetics entered China, Hong Kong’s traditional Chinese medicine brands developed a distinctive visual language—one that blended cultural symbolism with bold, vibrant colors.
Rooted in traditional Chinese philosophy, these colors carried meanings beyond decoration. Yellow was associated with digestive remedies, blue with soothing and disinfecting products, and red with cardiovascular medicines. Together, they reflected a uniquely Eastern understanding of color, symbolism, and visual harmony.
For its Spring/Summer collection, “丹 DAAN,” MUKZIN reimagines these once-iconic packaging designs through contemporary fashion, translating their distinctive visual codes into details woven throughout the garments.
Though these time-honored medicines remain part of everyday life, the artistry of their original packaging has gradually faded from view. Through “丹 DAAN,” MUKZIN brings this overlooked design heritage back into the present, creating a dialogue between past and present—a cultural revival expressed through fashion.
