We believe that animals are entitled to humane treatment and to have their basic needs met. This must be respected through the adoption of good animal husbandry, and the fulfillment of our animal welfare requirements.
We recognize the importance of securing our supply of raw materials from an animal welfare perspective through tough requirements and full traceability. The Five Freedoms recommendations on animal welfare set out by the World Organisation by Animal Health (OIE), serves as the guiding principles on all farms used in the production of fibers for Mukzin products. In addition, we also have material specific requirements:
 Animal Hair
  • Mukzin does not accept rabbit hair, including angora rabbit hair.
  • Mukzin only accepts hair from living and domesticated animals including but not limited to goat, alpaca, llama, camel, cow, buffalo, yak, horse, and pig.
  • Mukzin does not allow hair from animals reared in cages for their hair or fur, including but not limited to raccoon, marten, fox, squirrel, sable chinchilla or ferret.
  • No vulnerable or endangered species must be used.
Wool
  • Mukzin does not accept mulesing.
  • For wool originating from Australia Mukzin require that it is declared as Non-Mulesed wool or Ceased-Mulesed wool according to National Wool Declaration.
Fur
  • Mukzin does not accept real fur.
Down and Feathers
  • Mukzin does not accept down or feathers from live plucked birds or from farms practicing live-plucking.
  • Mukzin does not accept down or feathers from farms with force-feeding practices (foie gras).
  • Mukzin only accepts down and feathers from slaughtered birds bred for meat production, with an exception of foie gras production.
  • No vulnerable or endangered species must be used.
  • All down and feathers must be sterilized to meet Mukzin hygienic and clean requirement for down & feather products.
Leather
  • Mukzin does not allow cow, calf or ox leather from India.
  • Mukzin does not allow leather from Bangladesh due to poor tannery processes in the country.
  • Mukzin does not accept leather from aborted animals, including but not limited to slink, karakul, astrakhan, broadtail, persian lamb, swakara or krimmer.
Exotic Skin
  • Mukzin does not accept real exotic animal skins, including but not limited to; snake, alligator, and lizard.
